Bridal Shower Games: Great Ideas!

by Debbie L

With all of the planning involved in a wedding-the catering, making the bridal invitation list, planning the flowers-a bride to be may well find that writing bridal shower invites and the shower itself are the most freedom and fun she will have in the days leading up to her wedding. For a fun shower, games that the bride and guest will enjoy are important, but they can be easy, too. For example, placing an envelope under one chair at random can be used to award prizes such as the table centerpiece.

There are numerous bridal shower games, but the most popular ones have usually been around for years. Take the "Finish this Phrase" game. Popular phrases are written down, with the last half of the phrase missing. The ladies must guess how to complete the phrases. The person with the most successful guesses wins and is usually awarded a prize.

Another fun game that can put the bride to be in the "hot seat" is the "How Well do you know your Hubby" game. This requires about 20-30 questions to be asked of the groom beforehand, and can range from innocent questions like "What's his favorite color" to more racy questions like "Boxers or briefs." For every incorrect answer, the bride to be has to chew a piece of gum. Depending on how well she knows her fiance, she may end up speechless!

One of the most fun traditions at bridal showers is playing games. Bridal shower games are silly, and one of the most enduring, popular games is the clothespin game. Each person is given three to five clothespins. A word is selected as the game word. If you catch another person saying this word, you can steal one of her clothespins. The person with the most clothespins at the end of the shower is the winner.

At some bridal showers there is no need for an ice breaker game because everyone is already acquainted. A word game can be very fun for a group like this. Everyone might write down a piece of advice for the bride and groom. The group can then rate the advice, with the person giving the most valuable piece of advice winning a prize. It is very funny to see what people think newly married people need to know!

It does not matter the type of games that are selected, they will prove to be successful if people are made to joke, talk and enjoy themselves. The bridal shower games can vary from word games that are simple, to very high interactive games and icebreakers, which all will enjoy. The closing games could involve all by requesting them for their advice and best wishes and record a DVD or CD to be presented during the wedding.

A frequently enjoyed variety of bridal shower games involves wordplay. A popular diversion is called "Finish the Phrase." One might start with "Too many cooks" and then wait for someone to respond "spoil the broth." Give a prize to the person who wins the most rounds. The bridal shower invites should reflect the theme and tone of the party. If it will be formal, the invitation should echo this. A more casual affair will require a more casual invitation. The bridal invitations should be mailed to her, with another copy or two reserved for her scrapbook.
